Enduring stories of challenges and triumphs Champions of Alberta Avenue project released in November

On Nov. 4, Arts on the Ave (AOTA) is debuting Champions of Alberta Avenue, a project celebrating stories of immigrant business owners along 118 Avenue.

The event will be held at Parkdale-Cromdale Community League and is part of AOTA’s Fall Pub Night Fundraiser. The project includes photography, a short film, and written profiles.

Turning city walls into fantastic murals Edmonton festival draws in artists from all over

The walls of the neighbourhood just became more alive with art. From July 21-31, Alberta Avenue was graced with two more murals, part of Rust Magic 2017, a festival of mural creation. The stories of our neighbourhood champions Local project showcases journeys of business owners

Everyone has a story. Lan Lim, creator of Lan’s Asian Grill, stitched coffin interiors when she first arrived in Edmonton. Her husband, Sunny, fled violence in Cambodia. Popular Bakery owners Maria and Olympio Soares moved from Portugal to Africa before settling in Edmonton. Sidewalk chalk is temporary, but Art on the Ave’s Chalk It Up event has been going strong for four years! What started as a simple concept—bring in some chalk artists and let visitors try it for themselves—has turned into a popular, free event with a pancake breakfast and art.
