Our community loves to cook together.
The newly renovated kitchen at Alberta Avenue Community Centre is already host to the Mennonite Centre’s Global Cooking program on Tuesdays, where new immigrants cook dishes from different cultures together, then sit down, socialize, and share a meal. What goes into a meal that feeds 80 people with leftovers to spare? Parkdale-Cromdale’s community garden volunteers from last year’s pilot project can tell you: construction skills, a big pile of dirt, lots of seeds, and a little tender loving care.
Last summer, Parkdale-Cromdale’s Grower’s Dozen Community Garden tested their chops with four 3-by-7 foot raised-bed boxes that yielded enough food for a harvest meal for over 80 people, all grown from donated seeds and plants.
From interesting houses and beautiful yards to a ravine and river valley oasis, you will find it all in Parkdale-Cromdale. As I walk, cycle, or drive through our mature neighbourhood, I’m thankful I don’t live in a cookie-cutter treeless suburb.

Sebastian Barrera is a doer. Despite obstacles, he finds a way to make projects he has a vision for happen.
On April 21, he received the Courage to Innovate Award at the Mayor’s Celebration of the Arts for his work on the KinArt Ravine project, a series of more than 60 murals lining the Kinnaird Ravine trail.
A mindfulness meditation class is held every Tuesday between 7 and 8:30 pm at Parkdale-Cromdale Community League (11335 85 Street). This free class gives neighbourhood residents an opportunity to explore how sitting meditation practice can help you become more calm. Over time, meditation helps develop serenity not only during class, but also in everyday life. People practicing mindfulness meditation use a relaxed yet upright posture and pay attention to the natural flow of breath. All are invited to attend.
