City asks community for revitalization input Residents want resource staff and shared funding
On Oct. 17, City staff held an open house at Parkdale School to present the core components of a funding report for submission to city council as it prepares for the next four-year budget cycle.
Residents of neighbourhoods around 118 Avenue favoured the proposed appointment of a resource person in the community to liaise as revitalization enters a new phase. They’d also prefer that future revitalization dollars are spread equitably among neighbourhoods.

Hundreds of people have given their time to share their vision for and frustration with their neighbourhood over the years. Some of them took it further and joined a committee or worked on a project. Many residents sitting at community meetings today are the same as 11 years ago when the Avenue Initiative Revitalization started. That speaks of the commitment those residents have to making their community a better place to live, work, and play. Long before the Alberta Avenue Revitalization Initiative was launched, area residents have been the driving force behind efforts to improve 118 Avenue and surrounding communities.
Beautifying communities and alleys People needed for local Animate the Avenue Alleys project
Wesley Andreas has set his mind on beautifying and connecting the communities that surround Alberta Avenue. He’s focusing on the alleys in particular.
“We thought maybe we could do something more colourful,” he said. Andreas is the founder of the Animate the Avenue Alley project. He started last year with a project on his own fence and garage. “We had been wanting to paint our garage anyway, so we used it as an opportunity to do something interesting with our garage painting, rather than just repainting it white.”
