Westwood community pond to be upgraded The plan is a positive step in meeting community needs
Westwood’s ornamental pond is just north of my apartment building. I’ve often walked by it and regretted that I couldn’t use it for wading during hot summer days.
The pond was a community wading pool for several years. But in 2011, Alberta Health Services declared it unsafe for wading and it’s now designated as strictly ornamental, with signage in place to discourage use as a wading pool. The importance of community involvement Westwood Community League’s history informs its future
Last year, I saw the sign advertising Westwood’s Community League Day. Intrigued, I attended the pancake breakfast, met Bev Esslinger, city councillor in Ward 2, and purchased my membership without hesitation.
Since then, I have met several neighbours who felt the community league has provided many benefits. I learned more at the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues (EFCL).
