Move over, Shakespeare!

A free Youth Playwright Workshop Series awaits your presence

Constance Brissenden September 18, 2023

Are you between twelve and seventeen years of age? Interested in theatre, playwriting, or performing?

The Youth Playwright Workshop Series offers free classes from September 19 to December 19 (no class on October 10). Drop in any Tuesday to learn the basics of playwriting. Find your voice and tell your story.

Classes will be guided by professional theatre person and instructor Amanda Samuelson, a writer, actor, and producer.

Samuelson knows that writing plays can be intimidating. “I wrote so many bad scripts myself,” she recalls. “It’s a learning process.” The process paid off last year when her full-length play, entitled Pressure, was staged at the Edmonton Fringe Theatre Festival.

“At first, putting myself out there with my writing was terrifying,” Samuelson says. “But I was curious about theatre and playwriting, so I continued.”

Enjoy the opportunity to try out your ideas in a supportive and non-threatening environment: from monologues to skits to one-act plays and beyond.
